Sandy Boulevard
Renewal Project

Portland, Oregon
Placemaking, Wayfinding

The “Sandy Boulevard Resurfacing and Streetscape Project” involved much more than asphalt. Beginning in 2005 the Portland Office of Transportation worked with community stakeholders with the aim of enhancing sense of place while at the same time providing needed infrastructure and traffic flow improvements in Portland’s Hollywood District. As EGD consultant, Anderson Krygier worked closely with the city and a citizen advisory group to develop a Hollywood District logo, themed after the neighborhood and its vintage theater. The logo is used on city street signs and pedestrian maps throughout the business district, contributing to a friendly, walkable environment and a cohesive neighborhood identity.
